Homemade Lasagna Recipe

Here is another post today! Yes now that all my Christmas related activities are done, I'm pretty free~ I also have tomorrow off so I can stay up late and figure out what to make for Saturday's dinner. I love lasagna and I'm sure it's a lot of people's favorites as well. It's a great dish to serve during family dinners and friend gatherings. Making it is not hard at all too. In fact it's quite easy and fun! It does take a bit of time though...but it's totally worth it! coz my fiance said he likes it! =D

This recipe is another recipe I found online. Like other recipes I tried, I tweaked this one a bit as well. The original recipe calls for fennel seeds but I didn't add any. In my opinion, it tastes better without it. I also adjusted the amount of certain ingredients for my convenience as well.

Homemade Lasagna Recipe

Ingredients:

1 package of sweet Italian sausages
1 lb of lean ground beef
1 sweet onion- (chopped into small pieces)
2 cloves garlic- minced
1/2 cup water
2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp dried basil leaves
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tbsp salt
1/4 tsp ground pepper
1/2 cups fresh parsley (chopped)
12 lasagna noodles
1 egg
3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
473ml ricotta cheese
3/4 lb mozzarella cheese (sliced)
355ml can tomato paste
385ml can tomato sauce
828ml can diced tomato
1/2 tsp salt

9" x 13" glass baking dish
baking pan big enough to fit the glass baking dish
aluminum foil

Instructions:

1.  In a pot, cook lasagna noodles on high heat for 8- 10 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water. Put aside.

2. In a large pot under medium heat, cook Italian sausage (Remove coating) and ground beef. Stir and separate meat into small pieces.

3. Add in onions and garlic. Stir and cook until slightly golden brown.

4. Add in diced tomato, tomato paste, tomato sauce, 1/4 cup of parsley, and water. Season with sugar, dried basil, Italian seasoning, 1 tbsp salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil. Cover pot with lid and simmer on low heat for 1 1/2 hours. Stir occasionally.

4. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, 1/2 tsp salt, and remaining parsley. Gently mix them together with a spoon. Cover with plastic wrap and place in fridge until assembling.

5. Preheat oven to 375F

6. In a 9" x 13" glass baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce over the dish. About 1 1/2 cups. Place 6 noodles over the sauce, slightly over lapping each other. Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture on top. Place half of the mozzarella slices on top.

7. Spread about 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce on top. Sprinkle a good amount of grated Parmesan on top. Place the remaining 6 lasagna noodles on top, then add remaining ricotta cheese, and mozzarella. Finally add the remaining meat sauce and sprinkle a good amount of grated Parmesan on top.

8. Cover the baking dish with foil. Place the dish on top of a baking pan. This will prevent the sauce from spilling down the oven. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil after, and bake for another 25 minutes.

Cool for a few minutes before serving. Done!
